Openvpn for Android is a no-cost application that is compatible with any device running Android 4.x or later. It works with the Android system API and doesn’t ask for many permissions. Openvpn for Android isn’t an actual VPN it’s an application that connects to a VPN. It requires that the server be „on the other side of the line“ to function.
You’ll require the NordVPN Account, the NordVPN App installed on your device and the configuration files for the server location you’ve chosen. Our recommended VPN providers provide downloads of their configuration documents for various locations. Download the documents for config to your computer or phone, then transfer them to your device through USB/SD-card/Dropbox. Once the file is on your device, install the free OpenVPN Connect application by Arne Schwabe from the Google Play Store.
OpenVPN Connect, the „official“ client of OpenVPN Inc., is designed to be easy to use for novice VPN users who do not have the technical knowledge. It is, therefore, less feature-rich than the openvpn android which is designed for more advanced users. Both apps allow you to connect to any VPN service that supports the OpenVPN protocol, however openvpn for Android offers more user-friendly interface and is supported by a greater number of devices. It also supports features like dynamic IP addresses, split tunneling and more that aren’t included in the official OpenVPN Connect application.
